Details
Hailed as one of the most important singers of our time, Diamanda Galas has earned international acclaim for her highly original and politically charged performance works. Notable among these are Plague Mass, Defixiones - Orders from the Dead, Vena Cava, Schrei X and The Refugee. With an extraordinary voice, a delivery somewhere between shaman, sorceress and torch singer, and a politically-charged avant-garde sensibility, Diamanda Galás was born to perform. She first found fame and notoriety in the 1980s with her provocative Plague Mass - a requiem for the AIDS generation. Since then she's collaborated with John Paul Jones, performed for composers Globokar and Xenakis, and lent her extraterrestrial vocals to Coppola's Dracula and the films of Derek Jarman. Her performances are primal, disquieting yet executed with breathtaking finesse.
