Company of the leading choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh. World Premiere. The lastest in a series of Dance Umbrella/Dance UK discussions, focuses on the current lack of high profile UK female choreographers, arguments about which have recently made a splash across the arts press. This has triggered fiery exchanges about the validity of the debate, the barriers to women's professional development and, what steps, if any, might be taken to promote women in choreography. Historically, the dance sector and choreography has been dominated by iconic female figures, from Martha Graham and Bronislava Nijinska, to Pina Bausch and Germaine Acogny, so why in the UK today is there a perception that we have a problem? Linda Jasper, Director of Youth Dance England, chairs a debate discussing the issues with choreographers Siobhan Davies, Charlotte Vincent, Kettly Noël and Nelisiwe Xaba; Brendan Keany, Director of Greenwich Dance Agency; and Julia Carruthers, Executive Director of Akram Khan Company. In partnership with Dance UK. Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company (UK) - Faultline/New Work website.
