Riot archiveRiot revolves around the Yemeni seamen's riots in South Shields in 1930. A mix of the serious and the comic in semi-naturalistic style with the narrative operating as a love story against the back drop of major social and political upheaval. Although set in 1930, Riot is highly relevant to the UK today and tackles head on the sensitive matter of Muslim/West relations. The controversial piece received great praise from the critics and in 2006 Peter Mortimer was given a special award by Yemeni Voice magazine.
