For the first time since 2009, Japan's legendary composer, musician and performer Ryuichi Sakamoto returns to the UK as part of a world tour with his trio. Ryuichi Sakamoto is a true renaissance man - a composer, musician, producer, actor, and environmental activist. His musical endeavors range from pioneering early electronic music in his first group, Yellow Magic Orchestra, to globally-inspired rock albums, classical compositions, and over 20 film scores. His accolades include an Academy Award, two Golden Globes and a Grammy, and he has collaborated with David Bowie, David Sylvian, Robert Wilson, William S Burroughs, Jos? Carreras, and His Holiness The Dalai Lama, among many others. For this Royal Festival Hall concert, Sakamoto and his trio perform a selection of work from Sakamoto's album 1996, which features music used in the soundtracks to The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Sheltering Sky and High Heels.
