Caetano Veloso pretty much invented modern Brazilian pop in the late '60s. For his trouble he was jeered, jailed and exiled. A homegrown combination of John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Dylan Thomas and Stevie Wonder - and then some - he might be the biggest pop star you've never heard of. However, he's one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century. His songs merge surreal imagery with a sense of history and humour. These two special concerts launch the Barbican's Brasil: Brazil festival.
