A Christmas Carol archiveDickens's original story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet to come. A seasonal, site specific outdoor promenade experience, showing the beautiful and atmospheric Roman Theatre of Verulamium as you've never seen it before. It's a cold Christmas Eve and mean-spirited miser Ebenezer Scrooge has an unexpected visit from the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley. Bound in chains as punishment for a lifetime of greed, he tells Scrooge it isn't too late for him to change his ways and escape the same fate. But first he'll have to face three more eerie encounters, as he learns to pity himself and to love his neighbour... A Christmas Carol didn't just invent Christmas as we know it. It's also beautiful, angry, joyful, spooky and hilarious, radiating enough seasonal warmth to melt even the hardest heart. You will be immersed in the action as you are led around the Roman Theatre site by Charles Dickens himself. Along the way you will meet Scrooge, The Cratchits, Tiny Tim, The Fizziwigs and many other colourful characters - along with a few ghosts and ghouls who will try to point Ebenezer on a better path. All washed down with locally produced mulled wine, hot chocolate, seasonal snacks and lashings of Christmas cheer.
