Over the last three years the Big Band has received considerable national acclaim. They have supported international jazz artists such as Kenny Ball and Chris Barber at Jazz in the Park at Ston Easton Park in 2005 and 2006 respectively, and in 2007 performed to a sell-out audience here at the Strode Theatre with Ralph Salmins (winner of the lifetime achievement award at the BBC Jazz Awards 2006). In 2008 they performed at Sadlers Wells in ‘Excellent’ which celebrated 40 years of the Specialist Music and Dance scheme.
