Mother Tongue archiveMary Oliver's show is full of self-effacing humour. Using her versatile vocal range and synchronised video footage, she plays herself, her three sisters and her Scottish mother. As she puts words into her sisters mouths and tries to teach her mother to speak with a proper 'English accent, the effect is both hilarious and full of pathos. Mother Tongue is a simple idea that breaks all theatrical traditions. Run from and controlled by computer, this work is genuinely risky, placing the performer at the mercy of her own visible technology.

CORONAVIRUS: All venues in the UK were shut down on March 16, 2020, and the restrictions were finally lifted on July 19, 2021. It is important to mention that the UK Theatre Web archive listings (iUKTDb) from March 2020 to July 2021 might not be accurate due to the lack of information regarding rescheduled and cancelled shows.
