Matchstick men is a term misguidedly applied to Lowry's work. It belies the genius of the artist who could create a figure from single strokes of paint. Using a series of Lowry's solitary figures, crowds and self-portraits, this opening exhibition traces Lowry's treatment of human figures throughout his life as a painter and how they obsessed him.
