Medieval Sculpture
T0
Sculptures dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries will complement the Tate collection of British art, which begins at 1500. Medieval Sculpture will introduce a number of key historical themes in British art of the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries; in particular, the display will highlight the international context for British art and the cataclysmic effects of the Reformation, in which much medieval art was destroyed. The display will include architectural ornaments and funerary monuments as well as freestanding figures and will highlight the iconic significance of some of these pieces in spite of the damage they sustained in the Reformation.
