Clementine's Seasonal Spectacular archiveAfter eight fun filled, pie packed years Charles Court Opera will be moving on to The King's Head, Islington for their ninth panto this Christmas leaving our stage ready to be filled to overflowing by Clementine, the Living Fashion Doll, in her very own feature length show. The diminutive diamante decked diva is no ordinary doll, only 15 inches tall but already an international style icon with stage and TV appearances from Oslo to Singapore. She sold out a 207-performance run of a series of mini musicals at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, starred for two consecutive years in the London International Mime Festival and has made a TV series for ITV and two for the BBC, including a 13-part review show of Strictly Come Dancing. We were lucky enough to be given this exclusive interview with Clementine as she relaxed after a hard core session with her personal fitness trainer. We asked her how it all began. " I started out as just another gorgeous doll, living a life of pink plastic perfection- but then one night I made a wish on a falling star to be a 'real girl' and the next day I could walk, talk, sing, dance, act, and present TV! Then last Christmas, I featured as the host in a fantastic movie on the main screen at the British Film Institute on the South Bank, in which I rooted through their archives like a couture-clad Indiana Joan and presented clips of well loved puppet stars of yesteryear. I'm almost embarrassed to reveal that it was top of the Staff Pick list of things not to miss in the season, beating some low budget sci-fi flick called Star Wars!! But I want to assure you, my loyal fans, that seeing my head the size of an average semi-detached house on the big screen did not affect me in any way - I'm still Clemmy from the Block. And to prove it I have been persuaded to bring some much needed glamour into one of the most deprived and austerity ridden areas of London, the cultural wasteland that is Islington. My festive Seasonal Spectacular at the darling little Rosemary Branch Theatre will be like a heavenly Christmas selection box of chocolates!!! The fondant cream of yuletide TV specials from yesteryear (fake snow and huge fur muffs), the caramel crunch of multi-media puppetry along with some nutty comedy, and the pure indulgence of dreamy songs nestled between lavish swirls of production numbers!!!! Some of my dearest friends will take part - some human, some puppets. (After Clothes Horse and Cul-de-sac Q in the West End, puppets are big business.) I'm even going to be staging a glittering version of a good old British pantomime - the ever lovely Snow White (starring ME!) as you have never seen it before!!!!! Clementine's Seasonal Spectacular will be like a miniature version of a vast Las Vegas floor show, and in the true Christmas spirit, I may even allow audience participation!!!!!!
