Details

First performed in an aircraft hanger in Geneva and since then brought to Scotland by Philip Glass himself - as part of the Glasgow City of Culture festivities in 1990 - 1000 Airplanes on the Roof is a masterpiece of multi-media music drama by one of the greatest composers of our time. Philip Glass's music is repetitive and mesmeric, in many ways as close to dance music as to traditional classical music. His vast output encompasses film scores, operas and works for orchestras and soloists, making him famous across the world with an eclectic army of fans. The score will be performed live to film projection by the Glasgow-based Paragon Ensemble, themselves masters of the eclectic mix: recent forays (2001/02) into minimalism have included successful performances of the Steve Reich Sextet, John Adams Shaker Loops and Gavin Bryars Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet.
