ACM Gospel Choir archiveThe ACM Gospel Choir was formed at the ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) by those wishing to take their individual vocal abilities and apply them chorally with like-minded students. Headed by Musical Director Mark De-Lisser, the ensemble meet each week to rehearse and have fun. Students perform gospel songs and have regular live performances. The ACM Gospel Choir shot to prominence in the BBC’s Last Choir Standing, where they were easily the youngest, hippest choir on the show. The 28 students, who are mostly in their teens and early 20s, brought a new slant to gospel staples and contemporary covers. Mark De-Lisser rearranged the songs to give them a modern, pop feel, while the energy of the young choir had more in common with a rock group than their more traditional competitors. After appearing on The Last Choir Standing the ACM Gospel Choir went on to support Russell Watson on tour which he described them as ‘his favourite choir’ from the BBC show. The ACM Gospel Choir are keen to build on their achievements and are continuing to perform around the country including the Bournemouth Pavilion in July and at a number of charity events.
