Amadeus - the dazzling story of the tortuous rivalry between world-renowned composers Mozart and Salieri - returns to the screen as part of the Royal Albert Hall's Films in Concert series, accompanied by a live performance of the score by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields orchestra. Often referred to as ‘the most acclaimed film ever made about classical music', Amadeus (1984) is a sumptuous period epic and a glorious celebration of astonishing musical achievement. Directed by Miloš Forman (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and written by Sir Peter Shaffer, the film tells the story of vindictive composer Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), who is consumed by jealousy for his rival, the petulant genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce). Waging war against Mozart - and God, who he believes is speaking through the giggling youngster - he hatches a complex scheme for cruel and absolute revenge.Conductor Benjamin Pope.
