Paul Lacey's Back To Basie Orchestra were voted Best Big Band at the British Jazz Awards in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. Back to Basie is Britain's primary Count Basie tribute orchestra, directed by trumpet player Paul Lacey and featuring top session musicians and jazz soloists dedicated to playing the music of Count Basie's second great orchestra of the 1950s and 1960s. Voted the No.1 UK big band in the British Jazz Awards in 2005 and 2006, Back to Basie play with uncanny accuracy and excitement. Performing the music of Count Basie, including popular pieces like Flight of the Foo Birds, The Kid from Redbank, April in Paris, Vine Street Rumble and Corner Pocket, this is jazz at its best. Come and be excited by an all-Basie programme of arrangements by Neil Hefti, Ernie Wilkins, Quincy Jones and Frank Foster, played by the cream of British session players and jazz soloists. There will also be a special appearance by Jacqui Hicks, capturing some of the Ella Fitzgerald hits including Taking A Chance On Love.
