One of Scotland’s finest and often most dynamic pianists, Brian Kellock has been featured with everyone from Sheila Jordan to Spike Robinson. His last trio CD won a BBC Jazz Award but his latest disc, Nine Mile Burn, features him in gentler mood, both solo and in duet with Julian. Saxophonist Julian Argüelles, formerly with the innovative Loose Tubes, seems to have been everywhere lately with local appearances including the NDR Big Band and U.S. guitarist John Abercrombie. His duet tracks with Brian on the new CD produce some delightful interplay and what one commentator has called "brotherly understanding."
