Production details

Following a Tchaikovsky night last October, a sell-out Christmas concert in December and a Favourite Classics Concert in February, Cardiff's orchestra return to the National Concert Hall of Wales with one final concert, playing four of their favourite pieces from the last 30 years. The night will begin with Alun Hoddinott's exuberant Welsh Dances and will be followed by probably the most romantic and popular concerto ever written, Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2. The Orchestra is also delighted to welcome back soloist, Richard McMahon, who performed this very work in CPO's inaugural concert 30 years ago! The second half of the concert features two orchestral showpieces, Gershwin's An American in Paris and Respighi's The Pines of Rome where the orchestra will swell to over 100 players as the music climaxes with the resplendent evocation of a huge Roman legion marching triumphantly into ancient Rome
