Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer archiveColin Carr and Thomas Sauer make a welcome return to Lakeside with an all-Beethoven programme. Beethoven s first cello sonata and variations on a popular aria from Mozart s The Magic Flute were written in 1796 for the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm II, a keen cellist himself. These earlier works are contrasted with his expressive last cello sonatas, Op.102, written when Beethoven was almost completely deaf and suffering from increasing social isolation.
