Ensemble 360 archiveEnsemble 360 was formed in 2005 to take up residency in South Yorkshire succeeding The Lindsays who were retiring as a quartet. The ensemble brings together musicians from across the globe to form one versatile ensemble of eleven musicians; five wind players, a pianist, double bassist and the Elisas String Quartet. In their 10 year history, Ensemble 360 have consistently championed modern music, and this programme features two of Hungary's greatest composers, Bela Bartok and Gyorgy Kurtag. The third quartet is one of Bartok's most significant pieces, revealing an extraordinary mix of effects in a short time-span. Alongside these pieces, they'll be playing Brahms' Clarinet Quintet, considered by some to be his most profound chamber composition. It has an air of melancholy but is punctuated by moments of wild frenzy, not least with an extraordinary outburst in the slow movement.
