Early music ensemble Fretwork premieres a programme developed on an Aldeburgh Residency exploring a little-known facet of Aldeburgh's seafaring history. In a dramatised performance at Aldeburgh Church inspired by Sir Francis Drake's voyages around the world in the Golden Hinde, which was built in Aldeburgh, they perform the Elizabethan English music played by the resident viol consort on board, as well as imagined sounds the adventurers might have encountered in the Iberian peninsula, the Caribbean, South America and the Philippines.
