In this concert, which commemorates the tenth anniversary of the death of the great maestro Herbert von Karajan, Ms Behrens will sing extracts from the Immolation Scene from Wagner's epic opera Gotterdammerung. Also included in the programme will be selections from Tristan und Isolde, Richard Strauss' Elektra and Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder, songs written by Wagner to poems by his mistress Mathilde Wesendonck. The conductor, Gennady Zalkowitsch, is a former pupil of Herbert von Karajan.
