Production details

The first concert of the Worthing Wurlitzer season welcomes celebrated organist Iain Flitcroft to Worthing Assembly Hall to play the mighty organ which featured on his album. Iain Flitcroft is no stranger to the Worthing Wurlitzer theatre organ, since he moved to the town in 1989 he has played the organ alongside a variety of musicians from the Joe Loss and Worthing Symphony orchestras to Vera Lynn, Ken Macintosh and Eric Delany. He also chose to record his album The Talk of the Town on the Worthing organ. Iain has been a life-long devotee to both the piano and organ. By the age of 16, Iain had excelled in both instruments and had been made organist and choirmaster of his local church, St Paul's Faringdon in Preston. However his allegiance changed to the theatre organ when he learned to play the theatre organ from Ernest Broadbent who had been resident organist at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool. Under Ernest’s teaching Iain spent three years playing for First Leisure in Blackpool on the piers, in the Winter Gardens and in the world famous Tower Ballroom. Since then, Iain has played theatre organs around Europe but most frequently plays the Worthing Wurlitzer, enhancing concerts, dances and civic functions such as the town’s twinning ceremonies and mayoral banquets with the distinctive sound of the theatre organ. Iain’s concert, which is part of a series of Wurlitzer concerts featuring different guest organists, will delight fans who know Iain from his regular contributions to BBC Radio 2’s The Organist Entertains as well as new devotees to the sound of the Worthing Wurlitzer.
