A rare screening of the silent comedy I was born but... (1932) by Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu and a performance of a complete 90-minute score by Ed Hughes, performed live. This beautifully constructed film is about family life - and the conflicts caused by change and growing up. The brilliant choreography has echoes of the comedic style of early American silents. The music of composer Ed Hughes has been described as ‘scintillating’ (The Times) with ‘broad and dramatic textures’ (The Guardian).
