Production details

Montiverdi’s 1610 vespers are one of the towering musical achievements of the 17th century. It is a piece of paradoxes too, perhaps one of the reasons why it is such a fascinating musical experiences. For it is monumental, yet intimate and spiritual, yet secular: it is an extraordinarily theatrical piece of music given the religious subject matter. But more than any of this it is a simply a richly satisfying and deeply moving piece of music. Queen Elizabeth Hall
