The OAE is much more than one of the world's pre-eminent period instrument ensembles. It works regularly with conductors who specialise in both early music and the modern repertoire, and has explored the work of composers from Bach to Mahler, Handel to Borodin.

Liberation Gala
A 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to see the celebrated Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment perform the highlights of their Southbank residency in Jersey. Some of the most famous music from the golden age of the Baroque era rubs shoulders with a modern classic, with the Jersey premier of Sally Beamish's 'Spinal Chords'. With a world premier in 2012, 'Spinal Chords' proved to be an instant success with audiences and critics alike. Set to a text by columnist Melanie Reid, it tells the story of her struggle to overcome disability. The powerful text is underpinned by Sally Beamish's slowly shifting, constantly evolving soundworld. This sits alongside sparkling dance music of an earlier era, including Bach's bright and fresh Violin Concerto in A minor, with Russian international soloist Alexander Sitkovetsky as the soloist. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is led and directed by Matthew Truscott.
