The Oxford Philomusica has become one of the busiest regional professional orchestras in the country. For our debut concert as Orchestra in Association at the new, state-of the-art Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, Oxford Philomusica present two late 19th century masterpieces: Brahms' virtuosic Violin Concerto with its dancing 'gypsy' finale, performed by Jennifer Pike, 2002 BBC Young Musician of Year; and Edward Elgar's ever-popular Enigma Variations, born out of a parlour game where Elgar played variations on a theme to illustrate the personal characteristics of his friends, while his wife guessed who he had in mind.
