Folk Day 1

Folk music from Transylvania, the Eastern Carpathian Mountains and Moldova (15 mins). From the deep-rooted influence on Vaughan Williams's music to the ongoing rise of young British folk musicians, this year's Proms Folk Day offers the chance to immerse yourself in music, dance and storytelling. With its ability to characterise a community, folk music offers a unique reflection of different cultures and traditions. Many composers across the centuries have taken inspiration from folk tunes, drawing their colourful scales and vigorous rhythms into the world of Western classical music. Finish time approx. 18:00
