Intense, immediate and raw, El Cimaron fuses four musicians to evoke the inner world of Esteban, after he has escaped slavery. The work is based on the recorded memories of Esteban Montejo, a 104 year old Negro living in a veteran's home in Havana. Esteban grew up in the time of slavery and had then lived in the wilderness as a Cameroon, a runaway slave.
