Queen's Diamond Jubliee Tour: Classic Women
T0
Take five of the most dazzling stars on the UK classical music scene, combine them with some of Britain's best-loved tunes, and you've got a musical party on your hands. And as the nation comes together to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, that's exactly what we've done! Alison Balsom is the woman who made Haydn's Trumpet Concerto a popular classic: no-one makes it sparkle more brightly. Nicola Benedetti has got to be the UK's favourite violinist - and Vaughan Williams' serene The Lark Ascending regularly tops the Classic FM Hall of Fame. Cellist Natalie Clein, meanwhile, simply drenches everything she plays in soul, and Saint-Sa?ns' gloriously tuneful First Cello Concerto could have been written for her. And - because you can't have a gala without a splash of opera! - we also welcome the incomparable Lesley Garrett, who'll be bringing all her trademark glamour and fun to some of your very favourite operatic arias. Throw in Ravel's zingy Tzigane, Piazzolla's sizzling Libertango and a sprinkling of all-time orchestral favourites, and it all adds up to a right royal celebration of a concert. So go on, spoil yourself ? and crack out the musical champagne!
