Sweet Honey in the Rock archiveUsing only voices, with hand and foot percussion, this African American female a capella ensemble's style ranges from spirituals to rap, gospel to doo-wop. Originally arising from the struggles of the civil rights movement, their examples as a self-managed group of black women made them pioneers in the American music industry. In the dawning of the group's second quarter of a century, they remain unwavering to their commitment to political, social and economic justice, women's rights, the importance of children and respect for all beings.
