Taj Mahal and Bassekou Kouyate
T0
A special matinee featuring a very rare collaboration between blues legend Taj Mahal and the West African rhythms of Bassekou Kouyate. Grammy Award-winning musician, composer and voalist, Taj Mahal, is one of the most influential figures in late 20th-century blues and roots music. Fusing traditional blues with sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and the South Pacific, he has helped to shape the definition and scope of the genre over the course of his almost 50-year career. He is joined by Bassekou Kouyate, one of the true masters of the ngoni - an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa - who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in African music. He was part of Taj Mahal's and Toumani Diabate's celebrated Kulanjan project and here they collaborate again in an extremely rare live performance, marrying the American blues with the rhythms of West Africa.
