Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio archiveScriabin's Reverie is an early work which already shows the composer's distinctive orchestral style. Rachmaninov's piano concerto is probably the fullest expression of the many sides of his musical personality, from gentle simplicity to extreme virtuosity. Tchaikovsky took a great deal of trouble with his first symphony, and it remained one of his favourite works. It's not difficult to hear why, as its four movements are packed with delight, including folksong-based music in the slow movement and finale, and a scintillating scherzo.
