Production details
This young Danish quartet had huge success at the 2009 London International String Quartet Competition, winning five of the nine prizes, including First Prize. The quartet is renowned for its powerful impact onstage generated by the players sheer joy of playing and fresh approach to well-known repertoire. The quartet performs Mozart’s famous Dissonance Quartet, which takes its nickname from the tense harmonies that open the piece, something that was radical for the time. The energetic and dramatic Quartet in G minor is considered to be the milestone at which Nielsen reached his prime as a string quartet composer. In Beethoven’s late, great Quartet in E flat each part has equal importance, creating a totally new sound world to that of his previous quartets.
