Production details
The Darwin Song Project is a unique songwriting project organised by the Shrewsbury Folk Festival to celebrate the bicentennial of Darwin’s birth. The project is bringing eight of the finest contemporary folk artists from the UK and the US together to create new songs that have a resonance with the life, work and legacy of Charles Darwin. The concert represents the culmination of a songwriting residential retreat, where the artists will have lived and worked together in a beautiful 16th century farmhouse near Church Stretton for the week building up to this show. This performance is one of only two opportunities to hear all the artists perform the songhouse material together as a group, with another performance planned for the festival in August. Artists involved include some of the finest songwriters in the contemporary folk world, including Chris Wood, Karine Polwart, Jez Lowe, Rachael McShane, Mark Erelli, Stu Hanna, Krista Detor and Emily Smith.
