The National Youth Jazz Orchestra archiveNYJO features the best, most gifted and talented of the next generation of Great British jazz musicians. NYJO is known for its unique swinging big band sound. The music repertoire is huge, covering a wide variety of styles. NYJO has performed many hundreds of concerts all over Britain. The National Youth Jazz Orchestra is one of Britain's longest running and most successful ensembles for young people under 25 playing big band jazz. NYJO features 22 musicians and vocalists from around the country, most of whom go on to become professional musicians. Alumni include Guy Barker, Mark Nightingale, Gerard Presencer, Pete Long, Dennis and Winston Rollins and Amy Winehouse, which gives an idea why Sir John Dankworth is famously quoted as describing NYJO as one of the best bands you will ever hear.
