Mike Hurst is one third of the original Springfields vocal group, alongside Dusty and Tom Springfield. They were the first British vocal group to have a Top 20 American chart hit in 1962, and the top group in the UK in 1961 and 1962/3, voted for by the NME readers (The Beatles were best newcomers that year). The Springfields were internationally famous, with hits around the World. Their final performance in October 1963 was Sunday Night At The London Palladium, before an estimated audience of 20 million. According to the The Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music, 'The Springfields jointly and severally, were probably responsible for more hit records than any other British group apart from The Beatles. Mike Hurst has put the Springfields back on the road again to play small theatres around the UK.
