Details

Devised by Thomas McIntosh and Emmanuel Madan the piece employs obsolete office technology to fascinating effect. An 'orchestra' of a dozen dot matrix printers are 'conducted' by a network server through 12 PCs. The server sends out commands at precisely calculated times to the PCs, causing the printer to print fragments of text files. The sounds of the printers, varied through the electronic character set, are amplified and broadcast over a PA. The result is an amazing rhythmically driven music close in spirit to techno.
