Production details
Returning to Square Chapel, as they have every Christmas since 1991, early music band The York Waits perform medieval and renaissance music. Bringing their huge array of instruments - including shawms, sackbut, crumhorns, recorders, lute, rebec, gittern, hurdy gurdy and bagpipes - they recreate the festive music of distant centuries. Some of the pieces are still familiar. Many are delightful rediscoveries. Joined by soprano Deborah Catterall, the Waits will once again meet audience demand by giving two performances that are the perfect prelude to Christmas with mince pies and mulled wine on sale. Formed in the 1970s, The York Waits have performed throughout the UK and in many overseas countries and made eight recordings.
