Parades & Changes/Replays - Re-Interpretation of Anna Halprin
Anna Halprin's famous parades & changes (1965) is brought back to life - and to London for the first time - by French choreographer Anne Collod and a group of performers. A practitioner at the centre of 20th-century American dance history, Anna Halprin forged a radical way of conceiving choreography. Her vision is still influential today - notably her introduction of physical tasks as a basis for improvisation, the use of pedestrian everyday movements, and her strong belief in collaborating with other disciplines and art forms. parades and changes (1965) is Halprin's first 'collective creation' with electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick. Her most famous piece, it was banned in the United States for 20 years because of its nude scenes. The performance has an open structure surrounded by a complex network of scores. The dancers use these scores, selecting instructions to carry out as they perform several parades - the parade of ritual dressing and undressing, the parade of dialogues and the parade of a paper soundscape. parades and changes meticulously analyses the process of the performance, the surroundings, action and interaction with the performer. Tonight's performers include Portuguese choreographer Vera Mantero, whose work can be seen at Southbank Centre in September, along with Anne Collod, Boaz K Barkan, Alain Buffard, DD Dorvillier and Emmanuelle Huynh.
