Details

Dance from the Royal Court of Java. Hidden from the outside world, the sacred Srimpi dance was originally restricted to the inner circle of the royal courts. The epitome of Javanese refinement, it is here revealed along with a classic masked dance from the Yogyakarta palace depicting a lovelorn Prince from the ancient Panji legend. In a lighter vein, the dynamic and seductive Lengger dance originates from the Banyumas Regency. Europe s foremost gamelan group is joined by dancers from the Javanese courts of Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
