une maison - T1050447181

UK Premiere. Living space has always fascinated Christian Rizzo. une maison (a house) is a hybrid theatre piece in which performers into a dialogue with a suspended, mobile lighting structure. With this work, choreographer and artist Christian Rizzo continues his compelling exploration of the inscription of bodies in space. A monumental, mobile structure made of fluorescent lights hangs over the stage, and functions as the architecture, the scenography and the light source of this piece. It hovers above the performers, illuminating and sheltering them. As the stage gradually becomes covered in earth, the house is a space where bodies circulate, murmur, resound. The company plays out encounters and conflicts, solitude and community.

d'apres une histoire vraie - T0325390605

UK Premiere. Christian Rizzo is a French choreographer, set designer, director and visual artist. This autumn he presents the UK premiere of d'apres une histoire vraie (based on a true story). Though Rizzo is known for his thoughtful, introspective approach to choreography, d'apr?s une histoire vraie breaks away from his established canon, stripping back his usually detailed set in favour of an explosive, expressive choreography for eight male dancers. Rizzo takes inspiration from his memories of a folk dance performance at a festival in Istanbul in 2004. Rizzo stowed this away in his memory, and has created this piece using the feelings evoked by the masculine, Turkish folklore dancing. Channelling these emotions into d'apr?s une histoire vraie, Rizzo explores dance as it relates to communities, and how movement ties individuals together. Initially concentrating on minimal, ritualistic movments, his cast of dancers are propelled by two drummer, whose rapid-fire percussion lead the audience towards a neo-traditional rock rave.
