Snap/Sticks and Bones/Fallout
Three of the UK’s most creative male performers come together on a triple bill of exceptional talent. Colin Poole’s Snap, commissioned for The Place Prize 2008, explores tensions in the relationship between race and power. Former dancer with Richard Alston Dance Company Darren Ellis takes to the drums in Sticks and Bones, created during The Place’s international research and development programme Choreoroam. A solo for Ellis and his drumsticks, the piece is a quest for perfection through practice and an exploration of how a simple rhythm can inspire masses to move. Dylan Quinn is one of Northern Ireland’s leading dance artists and a Bonnie Bird New Choreography winner. Fallout takes a humourous look at our increasing objectification of violence as sports presenter Mike commentates on a TV show where contestants fight to the death in front of a live audience.
