As part of Brouhaha’s 2011 programme unity theatre will be hosting Diversity In Dance on Tuesday 19 July, from 8pm. This year acts include companies from The Netherlands, Norway and Spain who have all devised new pieces for Brouhaha’s theme this year which is ‘The Melting Pot’ - the myths and realities of the European integration. Acts include: Caribbean Peoples Dance Ensemble, are the largest dance crew in Northern Europe. In their unique style they mix contemporary and traditional African, Caribbean with African American dance. Founded in 2008 and choreographed by Artistic Director and dancer Thomas Talawa Prestø. his Norwegian based dance company have been celebrating dance and culture of African and Caribbean by drawing largely from the technique of traditional dances, and adding a modern twist. Tabanka Crew utilizes the language of African and Caribbean dance forms as the basis for movement development and artistic expression. African and Caribbean dance is approached from a contemporary perspective. This has created an original dance language, intercontinental in nature that speaks for itself. This dance language is known as the Talawa-Technique and is being taught on five continents. www.tabankacrew.com Got Skills are based in Rotterdam and combine contemporary ballet and urban dance styles. The agency consists of 35 dancers, 15 rappers / singers, 3 music producers, 4 D.J.’s and 5 choreographers. In this performance they fuse different dance styles into one show with each dance style representing a European Capital. They will present their new piece choreographed by Jason Jeandor and Ingerborg v. Weissenbruch. www.gotskills.nl
