4D - T0200730949

Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui presents 4D. With a title that is purposefully open to interpretation the programme consists of four duets that have existed as segments from Cherkaoui's catalogue of work, brought together to form one programme. The first duet, Matter, began as a pivotal sequence in Origine that premiered in 2008. The second, Pure, was commissioned by the Flemish dance festival Dansand and featured in the Sadler's Wells commission TeZukA. The third duet, Sin, grew out of Cherkaoui's 2010 piece Babel(words), which was choreographed in partnership with Damien Jalet. Finally, Faun was originally commissioned by Sadler's Wells as part of the centennial celebration to Sergei Diaghilev: In the Spirit of Diaghilev. Since their original creation, these four duets have been revised, and have evolved to realise their potential as freestanding works. In addition to these duets, the performance also includes the film Valtari. Together with director Christian Larson, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui devised this film for the Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros.

Puz/zle - T1537346012

UK Premiere. Puz/zle is the brand new work from Sadler's Wells Associate Artist, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Puz/zle questions the seeming importance of order and linearity, and explores if there is more than one way of solving a puzzle, telling a tale and simply living. Working closely with past musical collaborators - Corsican polyphonic group A Filetta, Lebanese singer Fadia Tomb El-Hage and Japanese musician Kazunari Abe - Cherkaoui dissects the form of composition and identifies the various themes that can shape a song. Cherkaoui also teams up with long-time collaborator Damien Jalet, set designer Filip Peeters and costume designer Miharu Toriyama to create this long-awaited piece performed by 11 extraordinary dancers from his Eastman company.
