Facing Viv/Trapeze/2 Human/Manoeuvre

English National Ballet makes a triumphant debut at the new Sadler’s Wells with an exceptional programme of new ballets showcasing the brilliance of some of the finest dancers in the world.. Cathy Marston is a rising star of British choreography. Her first work for English National Ballet, Facing Viv, is her response to T.S. Eliot’s epic poem, The Waste Land and is given its London Premiere during this Season. A combination of fluidity and off-kilter shapes that push the furthest boundaries of dance, she utilises six dancers to represent the different dynamics and moods of Eliot’s relationship with his wife, Viv. Trapeze, a World Premiere by Barclays TMA Theatre Award-Winning choreographer Christopher Hampson, uses Prokofiev’s rediscovered music for a ballet to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the composer's death. This vibrant and challenging score is the foundation for Hampson’s new dynamic work. Wayne McGregor, Artistic Director of our resident company, Random Dance, creates his first work for English National Ballet. This is the World Premiere of a duet that illustrates McGregor’s unique choreographic language and affirms his position as one of Britain’s most exciting young choreographers. The London Premiere of ex-English National Ballet dancer Patrick Lewis’ Manoeuvre is a visual feast which showcases the powerhouse of talent in the Company's male dancers. In a dazzling display of dance pyrotechnics the work explores the athleticism of classical ballet and circus acrobatics.
