Assembly: Decommission/Arrangement/Observe - T0886452250

A collection of works. Noted for his bold, unconventional choreography, the collection consists of Decommission, a compelling solo performed by Moran himself; Arrangement, an all-male ensemble piece that considers men and contemporary masculinity, challenging the objectification of men in contemporary dance; and Obverse, a trio commissioned for The Place Prize for dance that examines formalism in choreography, accompanied by an original sound-score created by BAFTA award-winning sound artist Kaffe Matthews. In addition to performances of the three works in the Assembly collection, each date on the tour has a programme that responds to the unique opportunities offered by the venue. This includes durational installation work Singular at David Roberts Art Foundation in a bill alongside artist Sarah Lucas and music producer planningtorock, a Symposium, Assembly: Critical Dialogues at Coventry University with Professor Sarah Whately, durational installation The Body at Nottingham Contemporary, and culminates in a performance of Arrangement at Greenwich Dance's historic Borough Hall in London.Presented byDance Art Foundation. Obverse - T353359363

Obverse is a complex, detailed and choreographically challenging new trio that tests the remarkable perceptual and corporal virtuosity of its dancers to visibly transform their state of being, from moment to moment, in both body and thinking. Obverse is a compelling response to the idea that meaning in dance is generated by how dance is structured. Dispensing with any aspiration towards telling a story or representing an idea, Obverse pursues formalism in choreography to conversely liberate the poetics and immediacy of dance.Corporate Sponsor Bloomberg. Choreographer Joe Moran. Choreographer Marina Collard. Lighting Beky Stoddart. Costume Tom Rogers. Sound Jamie McCarthy. Performer Wayne Parsons. Performer Hilary Stainsby.

Forward - T01603558909

A fresh voice in British dance, choreographer Joe Moran(semi-finalist Place Prize 2012) brings three distinctive new dance works to Lakeside's Djanogly Gallery 2, and theatre. Beginning in the gallery, Survey is a compelling solo for dancer Marina Collard which contrasts abstract movement against the physicality of the dancer. In the theatre, Obverse, commissioned for The Place Prize, is a powerful trio danced to a striking score in which dancers' physical and perceptual virtuosity is tested from one moment to the next. The Swarm Duet plays on the edges of chance to set free the poetry and immediacy of dance. Running time: approx. 90mins including interval.
