Bharathanatyam was established in the 18th century, and tonight's programme consisting of a series of independent dances perfectly displays all the components of the dance form. The dancers progress from pure dance styles that limber the mind and body, setting the mood before the pure Bharatanatyam technique is displayed. Traditional storytelling through dance and the art of expression is followed by a selection of slower more expressive dances gradually building the tempo and rhythmic footwork to a climax leading the audience to an upbeat energetic finale.
