The culmination of a series of workshops with local schools and community groups led by Sushmita Pati - artistic director of Kala The Arts. Kala the Arts is an arts organisation, which although based in Basingstoke, in practice covers most of the country. It promotes Odissi and other Indian Dance through professional performances, community work, residencies, insets and workshops and has gained an excellent reputation for its educational work with sessions from one day to ten weeks. Romance with Mudras, commissioned by Anvil Arts, is an innovative work with stunning combinations of sophisticated and stylised hand gestures interlaced with dynamic movements of Odissi, creating narratives from poetry and literature. Meghdoot explores the intensity of human emotions through Kalaripayittu - a martial art form from Kerala - creating a piece of dance theatre.
