The Badly Sheltered Daughter (La Fille mal gardee)
The Badly Sheltered Daughter (La Fille mal gardée) was first performed in 1887. In this production, choreographer Dirk Neumann brings the ballet into the 1960s. Lisa, a young girl, is in conflict with her parents and flees to Colas, a young dropout who she loves. While seeking freedom she finds new constraints in sexual generosity and shares drug experiences. Returning back home, Lisa gains new self-confidence and wants to go her own way. In this dance revue, Dirk Neumann uses the original music of Louis Ferdinand Hérold alongside music by Procul Harum, Led Zeppelin and Tina Turner. We are delighted to host this performance which is a cultural exchange between the twinned areas of East Lothian and Cottbus Germany. The host company, Curve Foundation Dance Company, will present work at the start of the evening.
