Bring it to the runway in categories inspired by pink for Jay Jay and Cai Revlon's Vogue Ball. Whether Barbie, baby, hot, millennial, peach, fuchsia or rose quartz, it's a colour associated with many social and cultural meanings, fashion moments, candyfloss and pink lemonade. Ballroom culture can be traced back as early as the late 19th century, gaining prominence in New York's Harlem renaissance of the 1920s. Having experienced discrimination for many years as they competed at these Balls, drag queens of colour broke away to create their own scene, free of racism, led by pioneer Crystal LaBeija. Showcasing beauty, fashion, sex appeal and much more, at a Ball members of the community compete in different categories, with voguing being just one example. Created by and for queer and trans people of colour as a safe space, means of survival, expression and fun, ballroom has developed into a worldwide community.
